We’ve been waiting a long time to say this: Violins & More is in Lynchburg Living!
The September issue features an article called “Bridge to Community,” written by Jeremy Angione with photos by Ashlee Glen. It tells the story of our shop, from the day Rachel’s father, Allan Heer, took it over about twenty years ago, through Rachel joining him as co-owner in 2019, to what the shop looks like today.

A few of our favorite things the article covers:
- Sam Howell, our resident luthier. Sam is one of the only luthiers in Central Virginia, and the article does a nice job of explaining what that actually means. He describes the trade as “an odd mix of artist and engineer,” which anyone who has watched him work will recognize. (Yes, the three-month waiting list they mention is real. We’re grateful for your patience.)
- Rent-to-own instruments. Young players outgrow instruments, so our rentals are built to let them step up in size as they grow without starting over.
- The Lynchburg City Suzuki Strings Program. This free program is something not many cities in Virginia have, and we’re proud to support it. Rachel’s hope is to see it reach students in the neighboring counties too.
- Beginner’s Luck, Beginner’s Luck is an ensemble for Adult Beginners. We meet on Tuesday nights at the shop with our conductor, Eric Hollandsworth. Call the shop for more details.
The line from the article that sums it up best is Rachel’s: “I love the people who come through the door. I feel like I’m part of their family.”
That’s the whole point of this shop. Thank you to Lynchburg Living for telling our story, and thank you to every one of you who has walked through the door over the years. You’re the reason there’s a story to tell.
