Violins & More now has two types of handmade Negri violin cases from Italy!

We’re excited about this one. We just received a shipment of Negri violin cases, made in Italy, and they’re now on the shelf at the shop.

If you haven’t run across the name before, Negri is an Italian case maker known for wooden-shell cases: a rigid wood structure under a fabric exterior, which gives you the protection of a hard case with a lower weight than you’d expect. We’ve been wanting to carry a case at this level for a while, and after handling these in person we’re glad we waited for the right one.

We currently have two models in stock.

Negri Venezia — $850

The Venezia is the flagship of the two. It’s a lightweight, shockproof wooden-shell case with a Cordura nylon exterior and a burgundy velvet interior, weighing in at 5.29 lbs.

Exterior

  • Strong wooden shell
  • Original Cordura nylon exterior cover
  • Key lock
  • Backpack straps
  • Music sheet compartment

Interior

  • Four-point suspension system, so the instrument floats rather than resting on the shell
  • Fitted interior cushions to hold the violin in place
  • One large accessory pocket
  • Dedicated shoulder rest compartment
  • Four bow holders
  • Excellent insulation against temperature and humidity swings

Negri Firenze — $580

The Firenze uses the same wooden-shell construction with a polyester exterior cover and a blue interior. It’s a little heavier at 6.17 lbs and comes in at a lower price point, but it’s still a serious, secure case.

Exterior

  • Strong wooden shell
  • Polyester exterior cover
  • Key lock
  • Backpack straps
  • Music sheet compartment

Interior

  • Suspension system
  • Fitted interior cushions to hold the violin in place
  • Two accessory pockets
  • Four bow holders
  • Excellent insulation and protection

Which one is right for you?

Both cases will protect a good instrument for a very long time. The Venezia is lighter, has the tougher Cordura exterior, the four-point suspension, and the shoulder rest compartment, which makes it the better choice if you’re carrying your violin every day or traveling with it. The Firenze gives you the same wooden shell and most of the same protection for less, and it’s a great step up from a foam or plastic case.

The best way to decide is to come hold them. Stop by the shop at 3200 Memorial Ave and we’ll let you try your instrument in each one.

We also brought in a violin from Negri along with the cases. We’re still putting it through its paces, so stay tuned.
